About Us

Who, What, Why?

WHO:  We are a group of researchers at the University of Virginia affiliated with the STAR (Supporting Transformative Autism Research) initiative.

WHAT:  We want to research and improve upon the way screening procedures, assessment, early intervention, and treatment for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are approached in Spanish-speaking families.

WHY:  Most established resources related to ASD identification and intervention models and strategies were developed in the US or UK. Many of these interventions likely contain features or elements that align well with common cultural values in the US and UK, some of which may be distinct from cultural values of many Latin American families. This may lead to lower the effectiveness of assessments and interventions.
